Adagio Health and RAND release key findings from Women Veterans Needs Assessment

Pittsburgh, PA (March 29, 2023) – On Thursday, March 30, Adagio Health hosts "Invisible No More," at the Heinz History Center. The event will be focused on celebrating and supporting women veterans, alongside the release of RAND Corporation's Western PA Women Veterans Needs Assessment. This first-of-its-kind report, commissioned by Adagio Health, was conducted over a 12-month period and analyzed national and regional surveys, Adagio Health patient data, literature on women veterans’ experiences, policies and available services and resources supporting women veterans, and interviews with women veterans and service providers to gain additional insights and context for the assessment. The report is slated to discussed in an upcoming Department of Defense forum as well.

Key findings from the report indicate that women veterans are an underserved and often “forgotten” population in the healthcare system. According to the report, women veterans fare worse than veteran men and nonveteran women in many areas, including physical health, mental health, trauma and violence exposure, alcohol and substance use disorders, and social support.

PA Representative Sara Innamorato, PA Senator Tracy Pennycuick, PA Representative Natalie Mihalek, and PA Representative Emily Kinkead are all scheduled to attend the Invisible No More event at Heinz History Center, along with former PA Senator Pam Iovino. Event speakers will include Adagio Health President & CEO BJ Leber, Yvonne Cook from the Highmark Foundation, and Carrie Farmer from RAND.

Brigadier General (PA) Maureen Weigl, Deputy Adjutant General for Veterans Affairs from PA’s Department of Military and Veterans Affairs will be the closing speaker.
